May 4th, 2010: Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion:
- Considering the high environmental damages and the financial consequences to insurers,
one could regret that not all remote backup triggers were implemented on the Deepwater
Horizon oil well emergency shut-off valves. As the industry knows the blowout preventer
(BOP) is a large valve that switch off oil in an emergency such as a blowout. It
can be controlled by hard-wire along the pipe. A secondary “Dead Man” control automatically
operates should the connection be lost with the rig. A third backup acoustic control
(which was unfortunately not installed) allows for acoustic pulses to be transmitted
from surface in order to trigger the blowout preventer (BOP). However considering
that the sea floor can now be many thousand feet below sea level, e.g. 5000 feet,
and that it could be difficult to operate the backup acoustic control, or that it
could be operated only after days following a disaster, one should consider the
additional security of a fourth remote communication device using Macroscopically
Induced Quantum Entangled Transmissions (MIQET). Such system could ensure that MIQET
control be activated from shore whatever the sea conditions.
- After incurring the overwhelming cost of the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe, it is
expected that insurers will increase the policies in accordance to a now reassessed
risk scale according to the security level of remote controls available on the blowout
preventer (BOP). Those industries and oil companies capable to secure additional
backup controls over their blowout preventer (BOP) could achieve a significant reduction
in the cost of their insurance policy premium. Moreover it is the duty of insurers
to tariff the risk reduction of extra security accordingly. The addition a MIQET
control on a blowout preventer (BOP) could reduce such premium as much as 40% over
acoustic only control system considering the risk reduction.
- E-QUANTIC COMMUNICATIONS could work with the Mineral Management Service, the oil
industry and equipment manufacturers to help deploying MIQET to the deep sea control
unit of the blowout preventer (BOP). The efforts of the oil industry and innovation
in communication can lead to a safer world.
- Doctor Robert Desbrandes is one of the inventors of the Macroscopically Induced Quantum
Entangled Transmissions (MIQET) technologies. He has had a long career in the oil
industry and is the author of the Encyclodia of Well Logging. A description of blowout
prevention is given on pages 77-82.
